Before you go to the operating room, you will first change into a gown. The nurse will remind you to remove things like your jewelry, glasses, and hearing aids. A nurse checks your heart rate, temperature, blood pressure and pulse.
Once your procedure is scheduled, a nurse will review your medications. You will be called with specific instructions regarding any medications that will need to be stopped before your procedure. You will also receive a reminder call the day before your surgery to review these instructions.
Follow your doctor’s instructions, on eating, drinking and taking medications. Wear loose, comfortable clothes, easy to slide on shoes. Bring containers for your glasses, hearing-aids, and dentures. Bring your photo I.D. and all required insurance documents.
After surgery, you are taken to the recovery room. Your duration in the recovery room will depend on the type of procedure performed. A nurse will call you the day before with a more specific timeframe.
Family members or friends may remain in the waiting room. After the procedure, one family member or friend may be brought back to the recovery area to visit and meet with the physician to review results.
Yes, you will require someone to drive you home and stay with you at home for 24 hours after surgery.
